I've mentioned this to all Wiki Staff members in our private group chat already, but just to avoid any confusion for regular users I'll just mention it in this post too. From today onwards, I'm retiring myself from active Wiki Staff duties. My reason being is that I don't actually watch any videos made by The Yogscast anymore on a regular basis and because of this, I don't really have any information to add to the wiki and hence, I cannot keep trying to be an active member when this is the case.
However, this does not mean I will be leaving the wiki. I'll be sticking around, so if anyone wants to contact me in regards to anything involving the wiki feel free, but basically, I won't be making regular edits from here on out. Also, this does mean that my plans to once again start up the Wiki Newsletter and Giveaway are no longer happening. If anyone (Wiki Staff member or normal user) wants to start it again, feel free but just know I won't be involved.
So TL;DR - I'm retiring from active wiki duties meaning I won't be making regular edits anymore or reviving the Newsletter & giveaway but I'll be sticking around on the wiki.
Hello everyone! Below you will see an example image for a new background for the Wiki. I feel as if the current background is very dated in art style and also features 2 Yogscast members (Strippin and Sparkles*) who are no longer with the Yogscast. I have taken the background from the old Yogscast site and created a new background from it. It keeps a similar colour feel to the old one so the change should not be too much of a shock. My proposed background is a slightly brighter colour but is a much more modern style and should look that way for at least a fair few years to come. I would love to know everyones opinion and also a yes or no response on if you agree we should change the background to this new style! Thanks for reading!
Votes FOR this change: 11 (Gavalar, Tower, Zaka, Orange, Aranho, Noreplyz, Elite, Innes, Nix, Shuffler, and Dragonofelder)
In the last few days, there have been some dramatic changes within the Wiki Staff team. One of the Wiki's longest-ever Bureaucrats, ThinWhiteMale, made the decision to retire from his position and from the Wiki a few days ago. The Wiki Staff team would like to wish Thin the best of luck and thank him for everything he has done for the Wiki in the near 3 years he was a Staff member!
In light of this and in order to maintain our goal in keeping at least 2 active bureaucrats on the team at a time, we have decided to hold a vote to decide who should replace Thin as a Bureaucrat on the Wiki! For those unaware, Bureaucrat is the highest rank a staff member can attain on the Yogscast Wiki, a role which is only determined via a vote. Anyone can participate in this vote, by the way, so long as you feel you know enough about each of the candidates to make an informed decision.
To vote, all you have to do is comment below with anything that clearly states you are voting for that person (eg. Voting for Shuffler/Orange). You only get one vote and anyone who tries to vote twice, vote for both candidates or does anything else which may compromise the integrity of the vote will have their vote disqualified. You can edit your vote if you'd like, so long as you do it before the deadline of the vote, the 7th of September. Any votes made after this deadline will also be disqualified. So, get voting everyone.
I'm voting for Shuffler, as I feel he has skills that he can take advantage of as a Bureaucrat that neither myself nor Soldier can.
Hey everyone, and welcome to the July 2016 edition of the Yogscast Wiki Newsletter! As always, these newsletters are written and published by myself, ShadowAuraInnes, one of the Yogscast Wiki's Bureaucrats.
Before I get to July's news, I wanted to say thank you to everybody who read and gave feedback on last month's edition. I've made a few changes to not only improve how interesting and fresh each news piece is but also to appeal to non-Yogscast Wiki fans of the newsletter. These changes shouldn't be too noticeable but should make the newsletter more enjoyable for all Yogscast fans to read from now on!
So with that out of the way, let's get to this month's news:
Yogscast News
8 Years of Yogscast
8 years ago this month, specifically on July 9th, the Yogscast Lewis & Simon (formerly known as BlueXephos) YouTube channel was created. That's right, folks: 8 years ago this month, The Yogscast was born.
Originally intended for World of Warcraft content; ranging from "How To:" videos for raid bosses to preview videos of the Cataclysm expansion, the channel soon grew into multi-game content. Some of the earliest games they played included Final Fantasy 14 (the original, shit version), Fallout: New Vegas and a small but growing indie game by the name of Minecraft...
It was here that the Shadow of Israphel series begun, which skyrocketed the BlueXephos channel to YouTube stardom. Becoming one of the driving forces of Minecraft's popularity, the channel's focus shifted to primarily Minecraft content, a focus which stayed true for many years and is still somewhat the same today. After Shadow of Israphel disappeared, the channel moved to modded Minecraft content; covering Tekkit, Voltz and the FTB mod packs. Today, the Yogscast Lewis & Simon channel covers a variety of games, has a huge subscriber base and maintains over 200,000 views on almost every video on the channel!
The Yogscast have been around for over 8 years now, but here's to many more!
Panda Has Left The Yogscast
If you're a fan of both the Yogscast and Panda, then you'll no doubt be sad to hear that earlier this month, Panda made the decision to leave the Yogscast.
On Panda's video announcing and explaining his departure from the Yogscast, he explained that he had been deliberating leaving the Yogscast for around 2 years or so but had never fully committed to the plan until recently. What partly caused this was the fact that Panda has recently wanted to do videos commentating on YouTube controversies but was scared to do so in case he ended up damaging the Yogscast brand due to the videos and so, finally decided to leave. He suggested that he may go into more in-depth detail as to why he left in the future, but for now, this is all he was publicly saying.
Due to this, Panda will be rebranding his channel back to his own brand of HybridPanda (Get it, because he does a hybrid of content and...he's a panda? Yeah, I don't really get the latter part either). Panda mentioned that with this rebrand, he would be returning to putting out a variety of content, including music, montage, comedy and obviously gaming videos.
So with that said, the Wiki Staff team wish Panda good luck with everything beyond the Yogscast and thank him for his time at the Yogscast, mainly for convincing Zylus to dress up in ridiculous outfits during the Christmas livestreams!
Yogscast Wiki News
The Return of Tower12346
Earlier this month, a very exciting update occurred within the Wiki Staff team. One of our inactive staff members, Tower12346 decided that he would like to return to the Wiki Staff team! Tower had been actively editing on the Wiki earlier this month and eventually decided he would like to return to his role of Administrator within the team!
So, from now on, Tower will return to using all of his powers of the roles up to, and including, Administrator. Tower mainly edits Series pages, so if you need any help regarding these types of pages, then feel free to contact Tower or any other member of the Wiki Staff Team. With Tower returning the Staff team, we now have 5 Administrators in the team (OrangeStripes Jr, Noreplyz, Gavalar, Shufflertoxin and Tower12346), making up 10 staff members overall!
Make sure to welcome Tower back in the comments below and if you'd like to learn more about the Wiki Staff team, then click this link for more info.
A New Infobox for Games Pages
If you're a regular visitor to the Wiki's Games pages, then you'll probably have noticed the large update to these pages that has occurred over the last month. If not, then you're either blind as a bat or...actually, I can't really think of any other explanation: You're as blind as a bat if you didn't notice it.
Either way, this update would be the new Infobox for Games pages, which we hope will be able to provide more information on each game as well as their association with the Yogscast in a more condensed format! For example, you will now be able to quickly see which Yogscast members have played the game as the Yogscast Avatars of each member who has played the game will now be present at the bottom of the template. Also included in this new template is the genre, release date(s), publisher and developer of the game, so you should easily be able to get any key information you desire about any game on the wiki through this template!
Let us know what you think of this template and, if you have any other suggestions, feedback and general comments about anything on the wiki, contact us on our Twitter page (@Yogscast_Wiki) or on any of our Staff Member's message walls.
And that concludes the July 2016 edition of the Yogscast Wiki Newsletter! If you enjoyed it, give this post a Kudos! If you'd like, you can also leave a comment below, positive or negative, so the Newsletter can be improved for future editions. So with that all said, keep your eyes open for next month's edition and I'll see you then!
Hey everyone, and welcome to the June 2016 edition of the Yogscast Wiki Newsletter! As always, these newsletters are written and published by myself, ShadowAuraInnes, one of the Yogscast Wiki's Bureaucrats.
After around 18 months of a hiatus, due to strong demand, the newsletter is back and will be released on a monthly basis covering the most important news from both the Yogscast and this very Wiki over the past month! I'll typically be covering between 2-4 stories in each edition of the newsletter (depending on how news-heavy each month is) and unlike the last batch of the Wiki Newsletters, the newsletter will now be posted directly in the forum post announcing each edition instead of in a separate file.
Now that that's all out of the way (don't worry, the usual editions of the newsletter won't have such long introductions), let's get to the main wiki news from the last month:
Yogscast Wiki News
Hiatus No More!
As many of you will most likely know, the Wiki Staff team has been in a bit of disarray over the past two months as most of our members, including myself, were on hiatus due to a number of personal reasons, mainly exams and such. It's key to remember that our roles on the Wiki Staff team are voluntary and as a result, personal matters take priority over Wiki matters for every member of the team, including bureaucrats.
However, I can now confirm that almost every member of the Wiki Staff team has now returned from hiatus and are all willing to make up for the lost time. From here on out, every aspect of the Wiki should now be fully functioning; whether it be the moderating of the wiki in general, regular editing or the management of our external media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and the Steam Community Group). So, you can now be assured that any and all of us on the Wiki Staff team are working to improve the wiki and if you have issues regarding the wiki, then you can simply ask any member of the staff team on our user message walls, post a message on these forums or send us a message through our Facebook or Twitter pages!
Yogscast News
New Yogscast Sub-Reddit Moderators
If you follow the Yogscast's official Sub-Reddit at all, you might know that in late May, the moderation team of the subreddit opened up to applications for moderator positions in their team. Two weeks and over 120 applications later, 3 new moderators for the team were announced by Leakycauldron: Owleriffic, TroglodyteHomonculus (and I thought my username was a clusterfuck...) and Bigslothonmyface. These 3 now join a 5-person moderation team who regularly watch over the Yogscast subreddit for all sorts of rule breakers, much like this wiki's Wiki Staff team.
I'd like to congratulate the newest moderators and hope that they are as creative in their roles as they seem to be at creating usernames. (I mean, what kind of a username is Bigslothonmyface or TroglodyteHomonculus? I can't even say the latter name aloud! Then again, I have ShadowAuraInnes as a username, so I don't have much ground to stand on.)
"Awkward...": Turps' Viral Video
As a non-Game of Thrones fan, it took me a couple of days to understand one of Turps' last videos of May, simply named: "Awkward...". The video sees Turps coming out of the cinema after seeing the Warcraft movie before shouting "Hold the door" to someone in order to catch the elevator. What follows is the camera panning to this person who ends up being Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor in Game of Thrones, and Turps awkwardly apologising to Nairn and saying he'll get the next elevator. No spoilers, of course, but for those who get the reference, this was 20 seconds of awkward brilliance on both Turps and Nairn's parts.
Over the next few days, however, in a rather unexpected(?) turn of events occurred, the video went hugely viral and was posted by multiple video sharing communities, such as Lad Bible and UNILAD. The very next day, the video had over a million views and ultimately became a bragging right for Turps as he mentioned it multiple times on the Deck Rippers stream the day after he posted the video. Currently, the video has over 3.1 million views and has become the most popular video on Turps' channel, just above the Live Action video of Diggy Diggy Hole and the first episode of YogTours.
And that is the first edition of the rebooted Yogscast Wiki Newsletter for June 2016!
I'd like to first of all apologise for how late this first edition of the rebooted newsletter series was. I'll be completely honest here and say that I've not been as active as I'd like to be on the Wiki over the past month and as a result, the newsletter wasn't high on my priority list. I can guarantee you though that the next editions of the newsletter will not be this late as this edition as I am planning to regularly moderate the wiki from here on out.
I'd also like to thank the followers of the Wiki Twitter who showed interest in the return of the Newsletter. To be quite frank, this newsletter series would not have returned at all without all of you showing that you wanted the Newsletter series to return, despite me constantly saying "Oh yeah, I'll go back to it at some point" etc.
Finally, I'd like to thank all of you who are reading this right now and especially those who have read this whole newsletter from the start. But, I'd also like to ask for your opinions on something: You might have noticed that throughout this edition of the newsletter, I've tried to add a bit of a comedic and personal flair to the stories to try and make it more of an interesting read than just a purely factual rundown of the past month's news. So, if you did notice that, then did that make the newsletter more interesting and/or appealing to read? Would you like future editions of the newsletter to have this sort of flair or would you rather it just be entirely factual instead? Please feel free to let me know in the comments below!
With that all said, that fully concludes this month's edition of the Yogscast Wiki Newsletter. If you enjoyed it, give this post a Kudos and/or leave a comment below so I'm aware people are actually reading and enjoying this and I'm not throwing an essay's worth of words into the void. So keep your eyes open for next month's edition and I'll see you then!
A new dedicated Discord channel for High Rollers fans has recently been set up by Isidorus. All fans are welcome to join! Invite link: https://discord.gg/013tY3J7ffsKs2u9S Come say hi! :)
Just wanted to make a quick announcement that due to the highly positive response from our Twitter poll regarding potential readership of the Wiki Newsletter (if it made its return), the Yogscast Wiki Newsletter will make its return this summer!
Starting at the end of June, I'll be making monthly editions of the newsletter once again, which will cover up to two news topics regarding the wiki and the Yogscast themselves. Whilst the newsletter will be mostly the same in terms of production as it was previously, some changes will be made. For example, I have decided that instead of releasing the Newsletter in a formatted PDF on Dropbox, I will instead be writing each edition of the Newsletter directly in a forum post on the wiki, making it much quicker and easier for all of you to read each edition as soon as they release!
I hope you all look forward to getting your monthly dose of Yogscast Wiki and general Yogscast news through the newsletter as much as I am looking forward to producing the newsletter once again!
As we have discussed, we need a consensus for the creation of a new namespace, 'Portal'. You can read more about namespaces in Help:Custom namespaces.
Portal will help with our collaboration with the Yogscast by providing direct links for viewers to directly find new content and games, as well as explore facts, profiles and articles. It will be used as a way for fans of each content creator to explore up to date content, meaning our wiki is more organised and easier to navigate.
Please leave a comment below regarding this change!
One of our administrators, Gavalar , recently opened an official Twitter account for the Wiki. Unlike the Facebook page's information/announcements role, the Twitter account will be used to post tidbits of trivia from certain pages on the wiki in order better provide information about anything and everything in the Yogscast that you may not have known!
It should also be emphasised that the Twitter accounts @YogscastWiki and @YogWiki are fake and are not run by any members of the Wiki Staff. If you currently follow either of these Twitter accounts, we recommend unfollowing them and following our Twitter account, under the Twitter handle @Yogscast_Wiki, as it is the only official Twitter account of the Yogscast Wiki!
Hey everyone!
Some of you may have noticed a small change within the Wiki's Admin Team in that we have now rebranded ourselves from 'The Admin Team' (or the A-Team) to simply, Wiki Staff. From now onwards, any upper-level users (from Chat Moderator rank onwards) will now be referred to as Wiki Staff!
Any recent and/or relevant wiki content referring to the A-Team should be edited into referring instead to the Wiki Staff or should be reported to a staff member to be changed.
This forum thread is here to discuss the possible bot addition to the wiki for Helperbot5000. We already have Yogsbot, and may I add it has been very helpful, but with the advancement of time, this wiki is getting even larger with more automated tasks required every day. This is why I propose the addition of this new bot run by myself. In order for this to happen, the community is required to approve this step.
Since this new account will be very similar to that of Yogsbot, I have included the same information provided then below for easy reference.
What’s the bot allowed to do?
If there is a large amount of edits to be done, a consensus will be made with the community to make sure everyone's fine with the changes.Spelling and Grammar will also be checked with this bot. Converting between templates, etc. Anything the community required.
What does 'flagging' the bot mean?
It means that the bot's edits will not appear in Special:RecentChanges or Special:WikiActivity. Because of this, I'll make sure that all edits are documented (just in case of conflicts that might occur).
How does the bot work?
AutoWikiBrowser and through custom scripts I (Shuffler) have created.
What if it goes crazy?
An administrator can switch off the bot by blocking Helperbot5000. If you're not an administrator, you can contact the VSTF to have it blocked.
Please leave a message of approval (or any questions) regarding the bot!
Due to general misuse by certain anonymous users (i.e. users posting information/methods on how to get into YogTowers), the comments section of the YogTowers page has now been disabled until further notice. If you would like to discuss anything about YogTowers with other Yognau(gh)ts, you will no longer be able to do so on the wiki. However, the rule regarding posting information on YogTowers still appilies.
Apologies in advance for any inconvience caused by this.
As this wiki becomes bigger to manage, things get harder to remove, sort and clean up. Because of this, I’d like to request that YogsBot is granted Admin Rights and becomes flagged as a bot. This involves getting our community to approve the use and flagging of this bot.
What’s the bot allowed to do?
The bot will be allowed to do things on the page User:Noreplyz/Bot Tasks. If there is a large amount of edits to be done, a consensus will be made with the community to make sure everyone's fine with the changes.
What does 'flagging' the bot mean?
It means that the bot's edits will not appear in Special:RecentChanges or Special:WikiActivity. Because of this, I'll make sure that all edits are documented (just in case of conflicts that might occur).
How does the bot work?
Generally, I'll probably be using AutoWikiBrowser.
What if it goes crazy?
An administrator can switch off the bot by blocking YogsBot. If you're not an administrator, you can contact the VSTF to have it blocked.
Please leave a message of approval (or any questions) regarding the bot!
It has become a very notable problem in the last few months that many editors simply add quotes to pages. To stop the excessive adding of quotes this section has been renamed to 'Notable Quotes' This section is dedicated to quotes that are said frequently or were very important to a key storyline or situation. Yogscast Members under the section 'Main 1' are allowed a maximum of 20 notable quotes. All other Members and Associates are allowed 15 notable quotes. Any additional quotes that are added will be immediately removed.
By doing this we are hoping to discourage editors from just adding quotes and are encouraging them to edit other sections of the wiki. Most pages now have a full list of notable quotes. At some point in the future some sort of submission forum may be added allowing people to submit newer quotes as these sections will eventually need updating.
I got inspired by the livestream bar in the Yogscast Subreddit, and, like the subreddit, we've now got livestream updates on our own home page sidebar!
You should be able to see a list of live streamers when they go live.
So I thought I should post this here so more people are aware (and for those that don't check twitter). On July 1st, Kaeyi and Martyn have decided to end their relationship, which also means the end of InTheLittleDream. If you want to read the full tweet you can here .
To help clear up the banner image code at the top of articles, a new template, {{Banners}} has been made.
Basically, typing
{{Banners|SimonLewis=1|Hannah=1|Duncan=1}}
will give you the three banners for Simon/Lewis, Hannah and Duncan. It will also apply the categories for you. A full list of which banners you can put is available here.
What's good about this change?
Banner images are better standardised and only one location needs to be changed if a banner is updated. Things like links and sizes are improved and also standardised.
Cleaner and easier to put into articles.
Automatically categorises articles (if they are not categorised already).
If a banner is duplicated in a list, it will only display one.
What's bad about this change?
Too many different people that it's difficult to remember.
New/unregistered users may not understand templates.
Also, while making this, I've cleaned up and removed a few duplicate person/IGN categories, namely Sjin/Paul Sykes and Strippin/Sam Thorne.
I love all of your series like; Tekkit, Feed the World, Sjins farm, Voltz, Dirt Quest, Flux Buddies etc... I would love it if you did another BIG modded series like those above! #LoveYogscast
Kind Regards, Jake, 15
