The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a critically acclaimed RPG released by Bethesda Game Studios on the 11th November, 2011.
The player takes on the role of the Dovahkiin (Dragonborn), an individual of any race or gender, born with the soul of a dragon. Following the re-awakening of the dragons, Dovakiin's fate is to defeat Alduin, the World Eater. On the way to Sovngarde and Alduin, Dovakiin can encounter many individuals and complete hundreds of smaller side-quests. The player can also sign on to a number of different in-game factions and organisations, such as the Companions and College of Winterhold (Skyrim's equivalent of the previous games' Fighters and Mages guilds), as well as the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood.
Two major DLCs have been released for the game so far. The first being Dawnguard, a vampire-themed expansion, and the other being Dragonborn, in which the player re-visits the island of Solstheim, previously encountered in the Bloodmoon expansion for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. A smaller plug-in, by the name Hearthfire, has also been released. Hearthfire allows the player to construct their own house and adopt orphaned children.
Along with the official plug-ins, Skyrim has a large modding community, spawning many detailed and amazing new weapons, armour sets and questlines. Skyrim modding is heavily supported by the Steam Workshop.
